Family therapy helps children, teens and parents/caregivers cope and talk about stressful situations, life changes and traumatic events to come through these situations with more strength and inner resources.
You and your teen will participate in several assessment sessions with a range of expressive arts and rapport-building activities. This will help the therapist get to know you and your teen and how you interact with one another.
Parents/caregivers will complete questionnaires that provide information about your teen’s development and their strengths and current behavioral needs. This helps guide the assessment process and the goals we will work on together in therapy sessions.
Your teen is able to choose from multiple expressive arts and play therapy activities (art, music, movement, sand tray, board games, digital games/activities) to express themselves in the session.
The therapist helps create a safe space for them to talk about topics that they are struggling with or express these thoughts/feelings through non-verbal activities to help them learn how to connect with their body and cope with stressful situations.
Your family is invited to participate in activities that are fun, playful and help you learn skills to communicate with each other, express your emotions and connect with your body to solve problems together.
